Getting arty now.

Day 112: Horseshoe Bay, Magnetic Island

First full day with Carolyn and Walter, and they wanted a tour of the island. With a day-pass bus ticket each, we dropped into the main settlements on the island; Picnic Bay, Nelly Bay, Arcadia, and back to Horseshoe Bay.

Day 108: Horseshoe Bay, Magnetic Island

I've started making these as a past time on the boat. This is a Kim prototype in colours similar to Cat Play. It would be nice to be able to sell them and break even. Have to see if there is a market.

Dinghy Chaps - Example

Out on a walk, I came across this dinghy anchored on the beach. Same make as our, next size down by the look of it, and with very similar fittings and mount points. When I make chaps for ours during the off-season, I could do a lot worse than follow this.

Day 107: Horseshoe Bay, Magnetic Island

Took the bus to Arcadia to visit the Rock Wallabies. Lovely little guys who come down for food at dusk. Dead cute, and some will eat from your hand. Some have joeys as well.

Everybody smiles.

Geoffrey Bay at low tide.
This one likes bananas...
...but pellets, not so much.
A lady wallaby - with a joey.
Some interesting rocks on the headland.
Formation wallabies.

Day 106: Horseshoe Bay, Magnetic Island

The Arcadia Hotel has a laundromat so we took the bedding over for a spruce-up. Mostly working, the washers and driers were up to the task.

Mysterious Machines.
Had lunch at the hotel while we were there.

Spagbol at the Arcadia Hotel.

Day 105: Horseshoe Bay, Magnetic Island

Fishing. Seemed like a good idea; motor north out of the bay with the fish finder doing its thing. On finding a shoal, drop in a line and load up the freezer.

Fish caught = 0

Line out - no bites.
Rainbow Lorikeet - like to hang out with the tourists.
Curlew - also like tourists.

Horseshoe Bay, Magnetic Island

Day 104: Horseshoe Bay, Magnetic Island

Technical day.

The alternator belt tension adjustment arm sheared and needed the TLC of a professional welder. An auto service shop in Nelly Bay (NJB Automotive) did a fine job and the arm is back on the engine doing its thing. The whole alternator mounting setup on the starboard engine has been problematic since we got the boat. I'll be looking for replacement parts when we get home.

Newly welded adjuster arm.

Arm on the running engine - seems OK.

A cabin hatch was left open with the blind left closed, i.e. a cat magnet. Stripped down and repaired the result. Pearl The Destroyer strikes again.

Bits of blind.

Blind back in waiting to be catted again.

Great WWSA (+DHs) meet up. Nibbles and drinkies in the rotunda.

Location
Horseshoe Bay, Magnetic Island

Day 103: Horseshoe Bay, Magnetic Island

Went on the bus over to Picnic Bay to check out the museum. Not very interesting but, then, Magnetic Island is small.

Little humpy.

Curlews.

Original school. Built like a proper Queenslander.

Checked out the jetty while we were about it.

Out on the jetty.

The beach at Picnic Bay.

A great pub for lunch.
