Great view over the river.

Place to avoid. This is just a tourist trap that dines out on its one and only asset; the view. Overlooking the Hastings River, it is in an excellent location. But when you put this up against very expensive mediocre food and ordinary service, there really isn't much going for it ($24 for a barely edible Chicken Caesar Salad!). Reasonable range of beers but, you guessed it, expensive. Some evenings there is live music.

One of the best views in Port Macquarie.

Expensive. Food not that good.

Wind Generator / Solar Panels

Mounted on the targa bar.
The cable is threaded through the targa bar and into the port engine room. It terminates on the Wind Generator / Solar Panel Controller (S+/S-).

Wind Generator

Part of the Wind Generator strain-relief. This attempts to even out the weight of the cable across all conductors and takes the strain off the crimp / solder connections. Cable ties at the bottom of the pole ensure that the amount of cable that needs supporting is no longer than the pole itself.

Description
Mounted on pole at aft port side. The cable travels through the pole into the port engine room. This is a 3-phase plus ground cable. It terminates on the Wind Generator / Solar Panel Controller (W1/W2/W3 and the ground to the casing).

Rear of the controller and the source connection terminals. Inputs are; Wind Generator 3 phase, Solar Panels, and Wind Generator ground (this to the controller casing). The switch is the brake; 1 -> brake on, 0 -> brake off.

Controller
This unit combines a charge controller for both the Wind Generator and the Solar Panels. It monitors supply from both inputs, and the charge state of the battery to determine which input source to use, and how much. It it located below the port house battery - screwed upside-down below the battery shelf. The single switch on the unit is the brake. When engaged, this shorts out the generator windings and any generated back-emf opposes blade rotation. Position 1 = engaged, 0 = off.
Charging Output
The output is connected directly across the port house battery.

Street View

Supplies a full range of stainless steel screws, bolts, nuts, washers, etc. Main stock is for industrial construction but they also stock a few things like Sikaflex and tools. These are my go-to guys for stainless screws. The staff are outstanding. These guys usually deal with building professionals, not amateur boaties, but they are friendly and helpful, and go out of their way to make sure you get the thing you need for the job. They really are great to deal with.

Big selection of industrial-strength tools but the boatie goodness is out the back where the stainless lives.

This is printed out, laminated, and is in a clipboard with an erasable pen on the boat. I carry it around ticking things off.

Aside: Some people have suggested that this is overkill. Perhaps, but it does make me feel that I have had a good look over the boat and anything really dangerous should have been picked up. It probably comes down to what makes you feel comfortable. I may not check every point in detail but at least the checklist makes sure nothing gets forgotten. I have never regretted running this.

Hull Profile

On hoist

Bulbs on the leading edge of each hull. By some aquatic engineering marvel that I don't understand, this makes the hull more efficient. It also acts like a cod-piece and informs others just what we're packing.

Rudder aft of the saildrive. The rudder extends lower than the saildrive which means that the rudder will ground first.

The saildrive. This is like the lower leg of an outboard except there is a whole diesel engine driving it. The grey collar is the zinc anode.

Aft view. The guy with the hammer is not a disgruntled stink-boat owner. That's our surveyor checking the hull for nasties.
