Day 3: Preparation / Dropping off the Hire Car

First job was to finish the netting from yesterday. The cats can get a bit lively on deck and this is to stop them skidding off. It's hardly a full safety net but it should prevent most accidents. Makes me feel better, anyway.

Netting. Sides and front.

We have a new type of sail on Cat Play - well, to us, anyway. A great big coloured spinnaker. I put this in its new turtle bag and stored it. On a very calm day, we will practice raising it. Can't wait to put it to use.

Turtle bag. Bungees to the deck during deployment.
Next up, provisioning. We, along with the crew of Sea Change, took the hire car to Coles for a food shop. While Kim did the trolley thing, I cleaned out the car ready for its return. Kim's back gave out so I took her back to the boat while I returned the car.

On the way to Thrifty, I picked up another house battery. This brings our total capacity up to 300AH. It's what we had on Red and I'm expecting this to keep up with our usage. Just need to find a space for it now.

Last job of the day was putting the boat name on the port hull. Looking good.

The name comes on a roll.

Name finished.

We're invited to dinner with Walt and Caroline on Sea Change. Nice evening. We expect to spend a lot of time with these guys this trip.
