Day 36: Cape Capricorn

We're a smidge north of the Tropic of Capricorn. Officially arrived in the tropics.

Took off at 7am for a fairly smooth 9 hour run. Had wind in the morning and was able to motor sail on just the port engine. I rigged it to charge the house batteries so we got power and hot water. Later, the wind died down and it was just the motor for the last couple of hours.

The crew underway. See that broom doing nothing? Me too.

Went through the Gladstone ship anchoring area. Lots of big guys out here and you need to keep an eye on them in case one takes off. Big and scary.

Gladstone ship mooring field.

Rounded the Cape about 4pm and found a nice shallow spot to anchor. The wind is expected to pick up into the night so plenty of scope.

Cape Capricorn lighthouse.

One problem; the port engine will go through its full power range - as in RPM - out of gear but in gear it tops out at 2,400. Spoke to Gary (Anam Cara) who has the same setup as me and he suggests checking the throttle / gear linkages. I'll run some tests tomorrow to see if I can isolate the problem.

Gas-powered mozzie repellent. Seems to work.
